From Roundhouse Kicks to Running Kicks: Week 2

Rain, Hail & Forgotten Keys (The Glamour of Training)

Well, we’re officially two weeks into the comeback, and things are… moist. 😂

Between downpours, hailstones, and a slight key-related detour, it’s been a character-building week—but the mileage is growing, the consistency is sticking, and we are definitely still moving forward.

Run 1 – Solo Soggy Slog (With Coral’s Voice in My Head)

Wednesday morning, I wasn’t quite feeling myself. It was pouring with rain, and I had every excuse at the ready to bail. Seriously, it would’ve taken me half a second to throw in the towel—if I wasn’t already drenched.

But I had my determined head on, and Coral’s motivational voice living rent-free in my brain, so off I went.

Within 0.25K, I was soaked through. Fully committed. “Well,” I thought, “this is as bad as it’s going to get.”

…And then the hailstones started. 😂

But I kept going. Another 4K in the bag.

Did I smash it? Nope.

Did I grind it out and get it done anyway? Absolutely. 💪

Sometimes the win isn’t in how fast or strong you feel—it’s in showing up when you really don’t want to. And Wednesday was exactly that.

Wetter but (slightly) happier than last week!

The long wet road ahead

Run 2 – The Key Incident (AKA The Logistics Lapse)

Run 2 was a tag-team mission with Coral. We had a solid plan:

               •             Park her car at the 4.5K finish

               •             Drive together to the start

               •             Run straight through the route

               •             Then Coral drives me back to collect my car

Perfect. Logical. Efficient.

Until halfway through the run when we realise between us we’d let Coral leave her keys in my car! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Now, at this point, we could’ve turned back and rerouted. But no—we were committed. I said it was fine, my knight in shining armour (aka Drew, my husband) would come rescue us.

And sure enough, about 1K from the finish line, who do we bump into? My Drew. Out for a walk. With Reo, our handsome (irrelevant I know) Labrador.

So instead of finishing at the car park, we looped back and finished the last bit of the run with an impromptu cool-down stroll. Crisis averted.

The run itself? Lovely! Perfect cool running weather, and another 4.5K ticked off. ✅

We’re well on track for hitting 5K next week and feeling confident.

Onwards, Upwards & Slightly Wetter Than Expected

Week 2: Summary (Definitely not Summery!)

This week reminded me that sometimes the hardest part is starting—but once you’re in it, your body remembers, your brain catches up, and your dog judges you less when you get home soaked but smiling.

We’re doing it. Slowly, soggily, steadily.

Next week: that first 5K target is calling.

Gratuitous Reo pic since he features in this weeks story

Next week we’re aiming for 5K our first big milestone! Stay tuned to see how it goes
